A ten member Rajasthani folk music/dance group from India led by Ms. Malka, sponsored by ICCR (Indian Council for Cultural Relations), will participate at the Kalahari Desert Festival in the Kalahari area of South Africa from 21 to 24 March 2018. In addition to performing at the Festival on 21 and 22 March 2018, the group will also perform at Nelspruit, Mpumalanga on 17 March 2018 and at Cape Town on 26 and 27 March 2018.

The Kalahari Desert Festival is an annual festival in the Kalahari area, Northern-Cape province of South Africa. This year the programme will stretch over three days and nights where it will use the moon and the stars to guide ways of the participants in this remote and beautiful land.

The following are the dance and music forms which the group is scheduled to perform during their visit to South Africa:

ø  Ghoomer Dance/ Chari Dance/ Kalbeliya/ Dance Kacchi/ Godi Dance/ Rajasthani Songs

The Rajasthani folk music/dance group from India will add different colours to the Kalahari Desert Festival -2018. The striking feature of Rajasthan's music and dance forms is that there is immense variety. In fact, nothing much has changed since the time of their inception, probably a thousand years back. Songs of ancient poets such as Kabir, Malookdas and Meera have become an integral part of the Rajasthani folklore. Apart from festivals, the music and dance of Rajasthan are also performed during special occasions such as marriage, and childbirth. Enjoy a Rajasthani dance performance and we can say for sure that you won’t stop from shaking your body in the hypnotizing melody and beat.
